SLP girls lax falls to Canton

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Placid girls lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday, falling to the Canton Golden Bears 16-4 on the road.

The defending Section X champion Golden Bears, which had given up just one goal all season prior to Wednesday’s contest, were led by Olivia Frances and Vivian Coburn. Frances scored six goals, while Coburn had five.

SLP’s Kelsi Burth and Juliana Tremblay each connected on one goal and an assist. Tyler Burth and Maya Garrison also scored for SLP, which dropped to 3-1 overall. Wren Crist had one assist each, and Sophie Czadzeck had six saves in net.

Draw controls were a bright spot for SLP, according to co-head coach John Burth. The team won 14 out of their 24 faceoffs.

The two teams’ squads will match up later in the season. But for SLP, the team will take two weeks off for spring break before their next game on April 29 against Salmon River on the road.

Starting at $4.75/week.
