USA Bobsled/Skeleton names world champs team
LAKE PLACID — The USA Bobsled/Skeleton Selection Committee has officially named its roster for the upcoming IBSF World Championships that will take place here next week for the first time in over a decade.
Mount Van Hoevenberg has hosted the World Championships 11 times in the past — in 1949, 1961, 1969, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1997, 2003, 2009 and 2012. This year’s championship will be the largest in history, featuring 300 of the world’s top bobsled and skeleton athletes from a record-breaking 38 nations. The competition is set to begin on March 6 to 9, and 15 to 16.
The women’s skeleton athletes representing the U.S. include Kelly Curtis, Mystique Ro and Katie Uhlaender. The men’s skeleton athletes selected are Dan Barefoot and Austin Florian.
“We’ve got a strong group of individuals with years of experience on the Lake Placid track,” U.S. head skeleton coach Matt Antoine said. “I’m excited to be back on our home ice and get this World Championships underway.”
On the bobsled side, Kaillie Armbruster Humphries, Kaysha Love and Elana Meyers Taylor have been chosen as the women’s bobsled pilots. Bailey Golden, Jasmine Jones, Lolo Jones, Sadie McMullen and Emily Renna will compete as the female push athletes alongside them. Additionally, Azaria Hill was chosen as an alternate athlete should any of the five World Championship athletes be unable to compete.
Frankie Del Duca, Geoff Gadbois, and Kris Horn were selected as the men’s bobsled pilots. Adrian Adams, Hakeem Abdul-Saboor, Bryce Cheek, Martin Christofferson, Dylan Gilbert, Manteo Mitchell, Boone Niederhofer, Hunter Powell, Collin Storms, Charlie Volker, Carsten Vissering and Josh Williamson will be the male push athletes racing with them.
“We selected a phenomenal group of pilots and push athletes for World Championships,” USA’s head bobsled coach Chris Fogt said. “They are excited to race on home ice.”
