Storm boys, Bombers girls hoops fall
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys basketball team wrapped up the regular season on Friday with a 56-45 loss to the Moriah Vikings.
Mik Denkenberger led Saranac Lake with 19 points, while teammate Cedar Crist had eight. Denkenberger knocked down two 3-pointers in the contest.
Moriah’s Cooper Allen led all scorers with 30 points, including five 3-pointers. Chase McGinness added 12 points for the Vikings, which improved to 14-4 overall.
The Red Storm finished the regular season with a 13-7 overall record and 8-5 record in league games. The team will host the Saranac Central Spartans in the first round of the Section VII, Class B semifinal round at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Saranac Lake topped the Spartans 79-60 in their lone matchup on Dec. 12. The winner of Saturday’s contest will take on either Northeastern Clinton or AuSable Valley in the sectional title game at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh.

The Lake Placid girls basketball team suffered a 62-35 home loss to the Boquet Valley Griffins on Saturday. The loss snapped the Blue Bombers’ three-game winning streak.
Abbey Light and Ellie Shipman paced Lake Placid with 11 points each, while Anisa Cecunjanin scored six.
Boquet Valley’s Claire Reynolds scored 33 points, helping the Griffins improved to 11-5 overall.
The Lake Placid girls, which finished dropped to 8-12 overall, will take on the Schroon Lake Wildcats at 6 p.m. on the road Thursday in the first round of the Section VII, Class D tournament.
