Red Storm sweep Nordic ski races
SARANAC LAKE — The local high school Nordic ski teams — Keene, Lake Placid and Saranac Lake — met Tuesday night at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center for a race under the lights.
Competing in a kilometer classic technique race, the Red Storm boys and girls team swept the race. The boys came out on top with a score of 11, edging out Lake Placid, which had 14. Saranac Lake’s girls prevailed with a score of 10 to the Blue Bombers’ 14. Keene did not have enough to score as a team.
Lake Placid’s Aidan Fay continued his strong season, taking the individual win in a time of 21 minutes, 27 second. Saranac Lake’s Mason Stoddard had a great race, finishing 24 seconds behind Fay. The Blue Bombers’ Colin Francis placed third in a time of 22:15, however six Red Storm racers took the next six spots to secure the win.
On the girls side, Maya Garrison of Lake Placid had one of her best races of the season, taking the individual win in a fast time of 24:33. She was followed closely by the Saranac Lake duo of Tyler Burth (24:54) and Kaylee Holmes (25:59), who placed second and third, respectively.
Up next, the teams will face off at Scotts Cobble Nordic Center in Lake Placid at 4 p.m. today. Following that race, the team will competie in a two-day Section VII Championships next week to determine the rosters for NYSPHSAA State Championships later this month.
