The Sara-Placid Lakers Girls 12U hockey team, which consisted of local players from Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Potsdam, Malone and Troy/Albany, won the Empire State Winter Game’s 12U Division title on Feb. 2 in Lake Placid. The Lakers tied the ESWG opening game with the Massena River Queens 2-2 on Jan. 30, and the following night they defeated the Adirondack Northstars 6-0. On Saturday, Feb. 1, Sara-Placid defeated the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers 2-0, and followed that up with a 1-0 victory over the Jr. Flyers again in the gold medal game on Feb. 2.
