High School Roundup: Local Alpine ski teams host races
SARANAC LAKE — The Section VII Alpine ski teams hosted Section III in a two-day race at Mount Pisgah and Whiteface Mountain. The slalom was held Tuesday night at Mount Pisgah and giant slalom on Wednesday at Whiteface. The fastest slalom time of the evening was set by Saranac Lake senior Zoe Carpenter.
The third fastest time went to eighth grader Leland Carpenter. There were 45 girls and 38 boys that competed. Section VII skiers had a good night with top finishers Ida Schwartzberg taking fourth place and Kara Kretser finishing in ninth place.
For the boys, Gus Earl took fifth place and Ian Munson finished in 12th place.
On Wednesday it was Leland Carpenter who took top honors in giant slalom with the fastest time of the day. Ian Munson finished in 10th place and newcomer Colden Robinson finished an impressive 13th place. For the girls, top scorers were Zoe Carpenter in fourth place, Kiley Kretser in 12th and Lake Placid’s Lily Kramer in 17th place.

The Lake Placid girls basketball team defeated the Indian Lake/Long Lake Orange 40-22 at home on Thursday.
The Blue Bombers’ Abbey Light led all scorers with 18 points, which included four 3-pointers. Anisa Cecunjanin added seven points, while Ellie Shipman had five, Ella Moodey and Margaret Thatcher each had four and Jillian Kern chipped in with two.
Mariss Chisman led the Orange with eight points and Alana Naubereit had six.
Lake Placid, which improved to 5-10, is slated to take on the Schroon Lake Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. today on the road.

Boys basketball

The Lake Placid boys basketball team defeated Indian Lake/Long Lake 65-58 in overtime on the road Friday.
The two squads traded points back-and-forth and ultimately tied 53-53 at the end of regulation. However, the Blue Bombers came out hot in overtime, outscoring the Orange 12-6 during the extra period to secure the victory.
Seb Cecunjanin scored a game-high 31 points to push his career total to 998. With four games left on their schedule, Cecunjanin is on pace to become the third ever Lake Placid boys basketball player to reach the 1,000 points in a career. Nip Rogers was the first in 1978, while Aaron Greene achieved the feat in 2001. Megan Riley, who scored her 1,000th in 2011, is the lone Blue Bomber girls player to achieve it.
Caleb Wylie also had a solid outing for Lake Placid, scoring 10 points, which included two 3-pointers. Brendan Murphy added eight points, while Owen Hayes and Phoenix Colby scored six points each.
Lake Placid, which improved to 3-12, will host Scroon Lake/Newcomb at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
