SARANAC LAKE — Grace Davis netted a goal with 23 seconds left in overtime to give the Alexandria Bay-Thousand Islands Islanders a 3-2 victory over the Saranac Lake Placid girls hockey team on Friday at the Saranac Lake Civic Center.

SLP’s Madison Blinn and Emma Clark each had one goal and an assist, while Kendra Levitt chipped in with an assist. The team dropped to 3-5-1 overall.

On the other side, the Islanders’ Piper Gonas scored twice, while Davis, Teegan Kittle and Harper Brown added assists to give their team its second win of the season.

After a scoreless first and second period, SLP jumped out to a 2-0 advantage on goals from Blinn and Clark. However, the Islanders responded with a pair of goals from Gonas in the final four minutes of the game, including a goal with 21 seconds left in the third to send the contest to overtime.

Despite SLP outplaying and out shooting their opponents 40-11, the team came up empty as goaltender Addison Swenson turned away 38 shots. SLP’s goalkeeper, Kelsey McKillip, had eight saves.
