LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid boys basketball team got off to a strong start in the first quarter on Friday, and never let up, topping the Indian Lake/Long Lake Orange 61-36.

For the host Blue Bombers its was their first victory of season, after falling in its previous 10 games. The team jumped out to a 31-9 lead in that opening quarter, and held strong the remainder of the way.

Lake Placid’s Seb Cecunjanin led the way with a game-high 37 points, which included 21 in the first quarter. Caleb Wylie added 11 points and Hugh Kissel had six.

The Blue Bombers’ Owen Hayes added three points, while Emerson Sweet and Phoenix Colby each chipped in with two.

Up next, Lake Placid will host the Willsboro Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Wedneday.

Saranac Lake boys top PHS

The Saranac Lake boys basketball team secured its third straight victory on Friday, after defeating the Plattsburgh Hornets 63-52 on their home court.

Mik Denkenberger scored a game-high 22 points, which included five 3-pointers to lead the Red Storm. Three other Saranac Lake players reach double figures with Dillon Wilson scoring 16, Cedar Crist adding 11

and Zack McCarthy chipping in with 10. Saranac Lake’s Gunner Harrison and Zack Goetz each added two points in the win.

Dan Hartmann paced the Hornets with 21 points, while teammate Bryan Kemokai scored 16. Plattsburgh dropped to 7-3 overall following the loss.

The Red Storm, which improved to 9-3 overall, will take on the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks at 7:15 p.m. today on the road.
