Tupper Lake football falls to the Mavs
TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake football team suffered a 54-24 loss to the Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks on the road Friday evening.
Morrisville-Eaton dominated from the early goings, scoring twice before the Lumberjacks finally scored on a 17-yard run from senior back Luke Robillard. However, by the time intermission rolled around, the Mavericks already had surged out to a 34-8 lead.
Despite the lopsided score, Tupper Lake head coach Dennis Klossner said his team had a much better second half. The team was only outscored 20-18 during that stretch.
The Lumberjacks scored twice in the fourth quarter on a 28-yard fumble recovery from senior Brayden Shannon followed by a 37-yard passing touchdown from Brock Fleishman, a junior, to Garrett Pelkey, a sophomore.
“I am proud of the way the team re-grouped at halftime and made tremendous improvements on both sides of the ball,” Klossner said.
Robillard led the Lumberjacks on both sides of the ball leading the team defensively with 13 tackles and on the offensive side he had a team-high 95 yards. Shannon had 45 yards, while Karter Kenniston earned 44 on the ground.
Klossner said quarterbacks Kenniston and Fleishman did a terrific job coming in and giving the offense a spark. The pair combined for 82 passing yards.
Tupper Lake’s Phil Lindsay and Kyler McClain had a solid performance on the defensive side. Lindsay recorded three tackles, while also recording a sack and a forced fumble. McClain had three tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
The Lumberjacks are slated to take on the Weedsport Wolverines at 7 p.m. Friday on the road. The Wolverines are currently 1-3 overall.
