Storm girls race past Beekmantown, Seton
SARANAC LAKE — With the cross country season winding down, the Saranac Lake girls cross country team earned a pair of victories at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center Tuesday, while the boys squad split with its opponents.
The Red Storm girls took three of the top five spots, to earn dual meet wins over the Beekmantown Eagles 24-33 and the Seton Catholic Knights 15-49.
On the boys side, the Eagles had six runners inside the top 10 to defeat Saranac Lake 21-37. The Red Storm boys were able to secure a 15-50 victory over Seton Catholic.
Beekmantown’s Olivia Drowne was the first girls runner to cross the finish line, placing first with a time of 21 minutes and 4 seconds. She was followed by Saranac Lake’s Cadence Kennedy (21:36) in second and Eagles teammate Emily Marro (21:48) in third.
Following the top three were four Red Storm runners — Asa Bruno (22:25), Nora Daley (22:35), Eloise Zobel (22:47) and Lizzie Harvey (23:11) — to close out the scoring.
On the boys side, Beekmantown’s Jon Slick (16:38) edged out Saranac Lake’s Jake Kollmer (16:43) to claim the top spot. The Eagles’ Nolan Laidman (16:49) was third, followed by teammate Max Page (18:04) in fourth and the Red Storm’s Keaton Daley (18:08) in fifth.
Saranac Lake’s top five was rounded out by Ebin Meissner (18:37) in ninth; Emmett VanBuskirk (18:46) in 10th and Liam Fletcher (18:48) in 11th.
The Red Storm will travel to Champlain at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for a meet against Northeastern Clinton, Peru and Saranac Central.
