Bobsled, skeleton athletes compete in push champs

LAKE PLACID — USA Bobsled and Skeleton hosted its annual Push Champs at the indoor ice push track at Mount Van Hoevenberg last week. The competition was held on Sept. 30, Oct. 1, Oct. 3 and Oct. 5.

In the women’s pilot race, Kaysha Love took first with a three-heat time of 11.33 seconds. Sylvia Hoffman (11.35) placed second, Lauren Brzozowski (11.53) took third and Elana Meyers-Taylor (11.82) placed fourth.

In the men’s division, Kris Horn placed first with a combined time of 10.78 while C.J. McNeal (10.91) was second, Grady Mercer (11.15) placed third and Geoff Gadbois (11.18) earned fourth.

During the push athlete competitions the following day, Jasmine Jones placed first in the women’s division in 11.22. Jones was followed by Emily Renna (11.52) and Bailey Golden (11.53). In the men’s division, Charlie Volker took first with a time of 10.26 followed by Carsten Vissering (10.41) and Dylan Gilbert (10.42).

Day three brought the first of two days of two-woman and three-man pairings. Love and Jones had the fastest one-run time of 5.41 and the fastest velocity in the women’s division. Vissering, Gilbert and Volker had the fastest time of 4.98 and fastest velocity.

On the second day of two-woman combos, Hoffman and Jones placed first with a time of 5.41. In the two-man combos, Vissering, Gilbert and Manteo Mitchell had the fastest combo speed of 5.04 while Adrian Adams, Gilbert and Manteo was the grouping with the highest velocity for the day.

The final day began with women’s skeleton as Sara Roderick took first with a two-heat time of 10.35, followed by Mystique Ro (10.50) and Michelle Toukan (10.51). In men’s skeleton, Andy Whittier placed first with a time of 9.48 while Tyler Lutz (9.52) and Nick Tucker (9.57) placed second and third, respectively. In the mixed team skeleton competition, Toukan and Austin Florian placed first with their combined time of 10.63, followed by Sha’Londa Terry and Sam Allred (10.67) and Darryl Payne Jr. and Hunter Williams (10.93).

Next up, the team will compete in the team trials/selection races at the beginning of November. Bobsled athlete will compete in Lake Placid, while the skeleton event will take place in Park City, Utah.
