LAKE PLACID — Four Lake Placid natives and New York Ski Educational Foundation athletes on Tuesday were among the 31 American athletes named to this season’s National and Junior National Nordic combined and ski jumping teams.

On the ski jumping side, Tate Frantz leads the way with a nomination to the men’s A Team, while Henry Loher and Schuyler Clapp were named to the men’s D team. Kai McKinnon was named to the women’s Nordic combined B team.

The ski jumping team is made up of 17 athletes who have accepted their nominations, while the Nordic combined team has 14 athletes.

Frantz, Casey Larson and Erik Belshaw will lead this year’s men’s A Team. Frantz made a notable jump from last year’s D Team, highlighted by his top 20 finish at the Ski Flying World Championships in Kulm, Austria last season. Two-time Olympian Larson is coming off of a shoulder injury this past summer, and will return to the hill in October for U.S. Nationals. Erik Belshaw had a personal best season in 2024-25, securing a silver medal at the Junior World Championship, becoming the first ever U.S. male ski jumper to medal at the event.

Annika Belshaw and Paige Jones lead the women’s ski jumping squad on the B Team. Annika Belshaw had more than 10 top-30 finishes in the World Cup competitions last season, while Jones had an impressive fourth place at the Intercontinental event in Lillehammer, Norway in December last year.

“I am really excited about the upcoming season. The team has put in a lot of work during the offseason, and their growth has been incredible. They’re focused, motivated, and ready to compete at a high level,” said Anders Johnson, U.S. Ski and Snowboard’s ski jumping and Nordic combined sport director. “I believe we’re just scratching the surface of what they can achieve. I’m confident that if we keep this momentum going, we’re going to have a strong year ahead. The athletes are eager to get out there and prove themselves.”

Two-time Olympian and four-time World Championships team member Ben Loomis and 2022 Olympian and 2023 World Championships team member Stephen Schumann return to lead the men’s Nordic combined team for the 2024-25 season. Two-time World Championships team member Annika Malacinski will lead the women’s roster.

“I’m thrilled to announce this year’s Nordic combined teams.” Johnson said. “Their impressive progress over the past year has been remarkable and a true testament to their hard work and dedication. I’m really looking forward to watching this team excel this season on the World Cup tour and at the World Championships in Trondheim, Norway.”

The 2024-25 FIS World Cup season will kick off for both men and women in Lillehammer, Norway on Nov. 22 on the large hill. The Nordic combined season will kick off in Ruka, Finland on Nov. 28 for the first World Cup of the season.
