Whiteface bike race kicks off June 2
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Whiteface 100 and 50-kilometer Mountain Bike Race will be returning on Sunday, June 2.
Both courses combined are set to host nearly 400 riders and will pass through the same terrain as last year in Wilmington, Jay, Keene and Elizabethtown. The 100K course boasts elevation gain of just over 7,000 feet in 67 miles with the highest point at 2,349 feet. Gravel roads and single track dominate the course with the start and finish lines for both distances at Preston Memorial Field at 7 a.m. on race day.
“This race is one of the signature mountain biking races in the eastern United States,” Race Director Kim Beach said. “This event would not be possible without the cooperation from each of the communities involved. We’re excited to be showcasing, once again, what this area has to offer for mountain bikers of all levels and abilities.”
A pre-race, get to know the course ride led by Patrick Carey of Speed Science Coaching is scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday, May 31, also beginning at Preston Memorial Field on Springfield Road in Wilmington. Registration is still available by visiting www.wilmingtonmtb.com.
