SLP girls lax tops Plattsburgh

LAKE PLACID — The Saranac Lake Placid girls lacrosse team defeated the Plattsburgh Hornets 7-4 on the road Friday.

SLP got off to a slow start but was able to break through in the second half to improve to 9-4 overall. The victory matched last year’s win total, which is the program’s best record in over a decade.

“Our defense was solid. Sabine (Denkenberger) had an amazing game and helped lead the defense to many stops especially in transition,” SLP co-head coach Jeff Denkenberger said. “With a lot of help from Maya and Ireland we were able to move the ball down the field quickly, which resulted in several of our goals. Offensively, in the first half, we took a lot of weak and bad shots. Once we waited for better shots, we were able to score.”

Lizzie Harvey led SLP with two goals and four assists. Phoebe Peer and Emma Clark chipped in with two goals each, while Tyler Burth added one. Julianna Tremblay had one assist.

“(Harvey) did a great job of finding open teammates who had a better opportunity to score,” Denkenberger said. “Addy (Dann) and Phoebe also had a big impact on settling the offense down, which put us in better shooting situations.”

SLP’s goalkeeper Samra Cirikovic had another outstanding game, recording eight saves.

The team was slated to host the Massena Raiders on Monday, before wrapping up the regular season with a road game against Ogdensburg on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and a home contest against Salmon River on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Starting at $4.75/week.
