Hole in one count at 7 for season at Whiteface Club

LAKE PLACID — As the season winds down, the count is up to seven aces this year at the Whiteface Club and Resort Golf Course in Lake Placid.

The two most recent holes in one were recorded last week by club members Murray White and Steve Bell. For White, it was his second of the season and the first two of his career.

White’s most recent ace occurred on the downhill, par three 11th hole, hitting a pitching wedge from 130 yards. It took place on Oct. 6, and although he was playing alone, the achievement was witnessed by a group of nearby course workers.

Bell, in the company of his wife Lorraine, holed out on the par 3 third hole from 192 yards with a six iron on Oct. 4. It was the third hole in one of Bell’s life.

Similar feats at the Whiteface Club started on the opening weekend in May when John Enright of Rhode Island jarred his tee shot on the third hole. That was followed in June by Bruce Berra and Fritz Mehler on the eighth and 11th holes, respectively. Bob Auerbach joined the exclusive club in July, also on the 11th.

The long, grueling 14th, playing well over 200 yards, remains the lone par three on the iconic course yet to see a hole-in-one this year. But there’s still time — the golf course intends to operate daily through Oct. 22.

Starting at $4.75/week.
