The women’s soccer team lost 1-0, while the men’s team fell 2-1.

Women

The women’s contest got off to a slow start, with both teams struggling to find quality offensive chances. In the second half, Madison Pincheon of SUNY Adirondack was able to break through when she kicked the ball over the head of Saints’ goalie Samantha Hayes.

After struggling offensively for much of the game, the Saints came alive in the late stages, finishing with five shots on net.

Saranac Lake native Chloe Skiff nearly scored her first collegiate goal during that stretch when a loose ball bounced in front of the net. However, the Timberwolves’ goalkeeper Cheyenne Shufelt made a diving save to prevent Skiff from scoring.

The North Country women’s soccer team will look for a better performance this weekend when they play in the Cougar Classic Tournament at Holyoke Community College in Massachusetts. The Saints will take on the Fashion Institute of Technology on Saturday before playing Anne Arundel Community College on Sunday.

Men

The men’s contest got off to a similar start with a scoreless first half before SUNY Adirondack’s Gabriel Hart recorded the first goal of the game a few minutes after intermission.

Trailing 1-0, the Saints responded a few minutes later when Garrett Hutchins found the back of the net on a pass from Jon Snell.

The Timberwolves claimed the lead for good when Hart made a pass to Emil Gustafsson around the 68-minute mark.

Despite a late push by the Saints, which included solid scoring chances from Snell, Max Favro and Mack Oakes-Lazare, the team was unable to slip one past SUNY Adirondack’s goalkeeper Kristian Johnson.

Both Johnson and North Country’s goalie Kuol Jongroor finished with 10 saves each.

Following Wednesday’s doubleheader, the Saints men and women’s soccer teams will return home next Wednesday against Onondaga Community College. The women will play at 2 p.m., and the men’s game starts a 4 p.m.
