They voted for it

To the editor:

Alison King’s letter to the editor “Protect Medicaid, families and hospitals,” (March 22) compels me to respond.

I am sympathetic towards her concerns: losing Medicaid coverage for 92,000 children, 4,300 pregnant moms and loss of a medical safety net for 2,700 seniors in NY-21, is horrible. But remember, voting has consequences and NY-21 voters voted for the removal of “socialist” leaning programs, like Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), when they overwhelmingly voted for Trump and Stefanik (see Project 25). The result and potential loss is most unfortunate but I can recommend one solution to this truly threatening situation.

Instead of promoting phone calls to Stefanik, a supporter of Trump, Project 25 and, interestingly, now a future United Nation Ambassador, Alison King’s advice, while well meaning, would be much better and certainly more effective if she’d advised NY-21 voters to vote for a democratic representative next Election Day. (We all know democrats are socialists, right?) Calling or writing to Stefanik would be like complaining to a fox about foxes attacking chickens; in other words, a complete waste of time.

I hope the voters of NY-21 can set aside partisanship and vote for their own self-interest next Election Day. Best of luck.
