Sunshine and CO2 are getting better everyday
To the editor:
It seems apparent from Dr. Curt Stager’s letter to the editor (“Dukett’s climate bias commentary is flawed,” Jan. 17) that he doesn’t want to hear a discussion about the sun, CO2 and climate change from a “laboratory technician.” Okay, how about Dr. John F. Clauser, winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on quantum mechanics? Dr. Clauser recently signed the CLINTEL climate declaration. CLINTEL is a group of nearly 2,000 scientists, engineers and others that have signed a declaration that “there is no climate emergency.” The key statement is: “CO2 is not a pollutant. It is essential to all life on Earth. Photosynthesis is a blessing. More CO2 is beneficial for nature, greening the Earth: additional CO2 in the air has promoted growth in global plant biomass. It is also good for agriculture, increasing the yields of crops worldwide.”
Regarding our sun, research shows that 2006-2007 began a positive trend and continues in annual sunshine hours over Europe relative to the satellite data. The good news is that human sulfur dioxide pollution lost its grip over the northern hemisphere in the mid-late 2000s. Interestingly, our acid rain data also shows a significant shift in chemistry starting around 2007, when Adirondack brook trout recovery discussions were picking up in earnest.
Many additional excellent scientists, well beyond us laboratory technicians, and not “tied to the fossil fuel industry,” understand CO2 is NOT an existential threat to the planet.
