Plunging for a cause
To the editor:
The Adirondack Redneck Special Olympics team would like to share some joyous news during this holiday season.
On Nov. 23, 11 athletic minded folks took the Polar Plunge in the cold waters of Lake George to raise funds for Special Olympics New York. The event had over 1,500 plungers that were willing to join the cause. Schools, businesses, law enforcements teams and teams like us were represented. The Viscardo Family, spearheaded by our teammate Erik Viscardo, encouraged our team to be part of the celebration. Two coaches, a unified partner, and an athlete participated with the Viscardo family. We would like to thank YOU, the many community members, that reached out to support us and the local Kiwanis Club that also stepped up to the plate. Businesses that donated included Belvedere Restaurant, Downhill Grill, Grand Union, Romano’s and Schlosser Family Foundation. The Adirondack Rednecks raised over $3,800! We will be back in 2025 to continue the tradition!
Our local Special Olympic Team trains year-round in various sports including bowling, snowshoeing, softball and bocce. You will find us at Romano’s Tuesday’s at 4:30 p.m. till June. We will be at Dewey this winter on Wednesday’s at 3:30 p.m. If you know someone that would benefit from year-round sport and health programs, please encourage them to join our team. The joy of sport, the joy of friendship, and the joy of team is JOYOUS to ALL.
Sincere Gratitude,
Erik Viscardo, Special Olympic Athlete
