Vote NO for Prop 1
To the editor:
Do not be fooled by Lindy Ellis’ letter to the editor on Oct. 8 in her failed attempt to interpret Proposition 1. We should understand that the convoluted legalese in the proposition was simply to confuse the voters, not to provide clarity. Even Lindy admits that she had to “interpret” the proposition for her acquaintance, and she certainly put a spin on it.
As it is seen by many, this Proposition 1:
1. Creates a constitutional right for biological males to compete in female sports. (View this “right” as a permission for males to do so).
2. Will prevent parents from knowing if their minor child is undergoing controversial transgender “reassignment” surgery or puberty blocker treatments.
3. Provides illegal immigrants with constitutional rights for healthcare and other taxpayer-paid benefits. It could also provide the basis for non-citizen voting in New York elections.
We must be very careful in voting on various New York state propositions for constitutional amendments. In many cases, the wording is structured to confuse us. If we cannot understand the wording of a proposition, any New York state proposition, then I suggest voting NO.
VOTE NO on Prop. 1.

(Editor’s note: Proposition 1 on the ballot, known as the Equal Rights Amendment, would not give anyone in the state more rights or protections that don’t already exist in New York law.)
