More than a difference of opinion

To the editor:

Egging of the Republican office is wrong.

What is different about this political cycle to produce such strong feelings and reactions? The policies and lies of the candidates are not simply free speech, as those there may believe. What is different in this election is the candidates. The hate they spread through deceit and their agendas create division. The hate comes from the heads of the Republican party. When those candidates vote against protecting women from domestic violence, care more about chocolate milk than the leading cause of childhood death being guns, they lie about hurricanes endangering people, they vote against vets getting treatment for toxic burn pit exposure while serving their country, and providing a smooth transition to veterans for health care when leaving the service. They take credit for money provided to the community after voting against it, claim to be for the police but not the police that were attacked and killed on Jan. 6, and still don’t stand up for the constitution or the transfer of power, lying about the 2020 election. One of these candidates is a convicted felon, sexual abuser and stole money from children with cancer … The other sold her soul to follow the big lie and doesn’t have the moral character to stand up for the truth, the constitution or the people she is supposed to represent.

They should feel upset over being egged. Nobody should be bullied. People with different religions, minorities, genders and LBGTQ have been being bullied and threatened for years because of the lies and hate being spread. How do they think people feel when someone trespasses and vandalizes someone’s personal property to take down an all inclusive flag? Why would they think any child would choose to deal with their hate year round just to play a sport for a couple months? Sports are fun, but it’s just a game no more. They can be cruel beyond words to those just being who they are. The hate that the storefront has experienced is a slight fraction of the hate that has been generated and inflicted by these candidates on so many.

Prop 1 on the back of the ballot in November is for equal rights to protect all New Yorkers from discrimination and give us all equal rights; that includes race, gender, religion and age. I hope one good thing that can come from the negative incident is empathy for others but not if they only blame the Democrats and paint it as an issue of free speech and a difference of opinion. A difference of opinion is “do you prefer coffee or tea” not whether others have a right to live their lives, make their own choices and feel safe in their community. There is more hate being thrown from those candidates than eggs being thrown.

Please turn over your ballot in November and vote YES on Prop 1 to give us all equal rights and vote for democrats across the ballot. Stop hate at the source.
