Finally some common sense and a good idea
To the editor:
I read with great interest Mr. Haney’s letter to the Enterprise suggesting that the armory be used for housing the fire department and the ambulance service permanently and the current firehouse be repurposed for the police department.
Common sense instead of political expediency and cozy political relationships is finally speaking up. Having the services spread out and leaving the police in the middle of town is brilliant. Repurposing a sturdy building that was constructed for military purposes with good highway access makes total sense. Not building from scratch in either case would be less costly than the proposed monster building.
Being able to take the proposed site and do a legal and proper SEQR study and then build badly needed housing is a no-brainer. The housing would back up to an established quiet neighborhood and make it even more stable.
Above all, cutting construction costs to save the taxpayers money should be foremost in the village board’s minds.
