This photograph was taken exactly 110 years ago today! William and Tarsilla Schuster, pictured here, were both patients at the New York State Hospital for Incipient Tuberculosis in Ray Brook between 1908 and 1915. William took many photographs of their time at Ray Brook, and provided us a unique view into the early years of the facility. William also sold prints and photograph postcards to fellow patients as a way to make a little extra money. His handwritten note on the back of this photograph read, “Taken May 30, 1914.”
