Barbara Ann Marvin

??????????

Barbara Ann Marvin, at the age of 77, passed away on Monday, Jan. 10, 2025, surrounded by loving family at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She was actively working in the office at the family business of Marvin Land Surveying.

Barbara was born to the late Daniel and Myra (Warrington) Dow in Lake Placid on May 3, 1947. She graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1965, having already fallen in love with her lifetime sweetheart. She continued on in school at Utica School of Automation and then immediately went to work for IBM, where her work always remained top secret. She and Bob married on Nov. 12, 1966. They moved in the early part of their marriage for Barbara’s work and because Bob enlisted in the Navy. Together they lived in Winooski, Vermont, Jacksonville, Florida and China Lake, California, before returning to live permanently in Lake Placid.

Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Robert M. Marvin Jr. She is survived by their children: Rebecca “Becky” Ann and Charles “Chuck” Brewer of Milton, Florida, Robert M. Marvin III and Denise D’Elia of Lexington, Georgia, and Daniel Edward and Lisa Marvin of Lake Placid. Barbara is survived by four grandchildren: Brianna Marie Latourelle, Brandon Michael Latourelle, Nicholas Daniel Marvin, and Julianna Marie Marvin. Barbara is also survived by her first cousin, Joy (Warrington) Conway, whom she talked with almost everyday.

Barbara began volunteering in high school and never stopped. She quietly supported and gave to others both in her community and in communities she traveled through. During this past week she was affectionately called the “mother of NYSAPLS” (New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors), a compliment that truly honored her. Barbara was a kind and compassionate person who put others before herself. She had a passion for planning each and every dinner for her hard working husband; enjoyed knitting, spending time in the garden, long walks on the beach, and time with family and friends. She reached out to so many people, who have lovingly said she was “like a mom” or “like a sister” to them. She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the CVPH FitzPatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh or to your local cancer center.

There are no services at this time. A celebration of her life service will be held at the convenience of her family. Thank you for your prayers.
