Thomas Joseph McConnell
Thomas Joseph McConnell, 90, of Lake Placid, passed away on Jan. 7, 2025, at home surrounded by the support and unconditional love of his family.
Tom was born on Oct. 31, 1934, to Edgar and Francis McConnell in Albany. From the day he was born he brought love, light and laughter to all who crossed paths with him. Tom went on to graduate from Christian Brothers Academy in 1952 where he went on to work a short stint with Niagara Mohawk Power. He then enlisted in the Airforce as an Air Traffic Controller, where he was stationed in Biloxi Mississippi and Frankfurt Germany during the Korean War.
At the young age of 12, Tom met the love of his life, Margaret. They were married on April 7, 1956, and were inseparable until Marge’s passing in 2021. Tom and Marge were married for over 65 magical years and had three beautiful daughters: Donna, Colleen and Kelly. In 1967 they relocated the family from Albany to Lake Placid, where Tom and Marge built their roots, grew their family and became integral parts of the community.
When Tom came to Lake Placid, he started working for Wilkins’ Insurance Company, and quickly found his love for real estate. Tom dedicated his career to real estate for almost 50 years, where he was eternally proud of the family of realtors he worked alongside. Tom was also a dedicated member of Saint Agnes Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Saint Agnes meant the world to him, he was faithful to coming to church every Sunday and could even be found inside of the beautiful church on a random weekday, spending quiet time in reflection with the Lord.
Tom’s proudest accomplishment was his family. He was a wise and doting father, grandfather and great grandfather. A true foundation, cornerstone and guiding light to those he loved. He was the quiet motivator, and everyone’s biggest fan. Tom never met a person who he did not instantly connect with. His gentle smile, comforting touch, wise words, witty humor and deep love of animals was a comfort to many and a sight to behold. He will be missed by many.
Tom is predeceased by his loving wife, Marge, his parents Edgar and Francis and his sisters, Joan, Jackie and Carolyn. He is survived by his children: Donna McConnell of Lake Placid, Colleen (John) Holmes of Lake Placid and Kelly (Jim) Saunders of Chapin, SC.
His Grandchildren: Tyler (Monica) Saunders, Shannon (Shannon) Langley, Dylan Duffy, Paige Saunders, Caitlin (Andrew) True, Molly (Shane) Madden, Maddie Saunders and Cooper Holmes.
His Great Grandchildren: Ava and Aubrey Saunders, Weston, Bennett and Mia Langley, Frankie and Willow Duffy, Delaney Dangerfield and Bodhi and Goldie True.
