Nancy Colton

Nancy Ann Braun Colton passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025, in Lake Placid.

A Memorial Mass will be held for Nancy on Feb. 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. There will be no public calling hours. A Luncheon Reception is to immediately follow the Memorial Mass.

Nancy was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania on Nov. 7, 1934. Her family moved to Conneaut, Ohio where she, her brothers and her sister enjoyed growing up on the shores of Lake Erie. Nancy graduated from Conneaut High School where she played saxophone in the band and was head majorette for the marching band. Nancy attended and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. While a student at Miami, she was a member of the sorority, Alpha Chi Omega.

After graduating from college, Nancy moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and pursued a career in management where she was a clothing buyer for the Higbee Company. While in Cleveland, Nancy reconnected with her childhood friend, Ted and they began their first of 60 years of marriage. Nancy and Ted eventually settled in Fairview Park, Ohio to begin a family. In 1966 they made the life-changing decision to move to Carthage. Here, Nancy and Ted raised their family and spent the remainder of their marriage.

While raising a family in Carthage, Nancy enjoyed participating in many community activities. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Bridge Club and Dicken’s Club. The Kangaroo Club became a staple of Nancy and Ted’s life where lifelong friendships would follow them through the years. Nancy enjoyed playing in the women’s golf league at the Carlowden Country Club and skiing during the long winters. Nancy had many passions some of which included reading, playing the piano and listening to all genres of music. During the summers, Nancy and her family made many wonderful memories at Pleasant Lake.

Nancy is predeceased by her husband, Theodore Joseph Colton. (Jan. 27, 2018). She is survived by her son Philip T. Colton and his wife Michelle McQuarrie Colton of Minneapolis, Minnesota, her daughter Anne Lynn Colton Rickard and her husband John (Buzzy) David Rickard of Lake Placid, New York, her daughter Catherine Grace Colton Dunlap and her late husband Victor W. Dunlap II of Old Forge, New York and Orlando, Florida. Nancy has four grandchildren Annalise (Tyler), Jackson, Georgianna, Eleanor and one great-grandchild, Madison.
