Kevin Michael Callaghan
Kevin Michael Callaghan, age 60, of 13 Hasbrouck Drive, Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024 at Vasser Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie with family and friends at his bedside.
Born in Poughkeepsie on Nov. 20, 1964, he was the son of Lawrence Callaghan and Mary Leah (Meagher) Callaghan.
Kevin graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and continued his education receiving a BS, MIS at Marist College and MS at the University of Connecticut. He was a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie and summered his entire life in Saranac Lake. Kevin was a Lecturer at Marist College, Department of Computer Science from 2005 to 2016. He was named 2015-2016 Student Government Association Faculty of the Year at Marist College. He also owned and operated his own accounting business, Callaghan Tax Services, Inc. from 1988 to present.
Kevin was a rare individual. He physically cared for both of his aging parents well into their seventies and eighties. He was an active volunteer with the Catholic Youth Organization, serving as an adult advisor and contributing many years in the Young Adult Ministry program. He was an active parish member and served as a religious education teacher for the Catholic church. He also coached for the town of Poughkeepsie Little League. Throughout his lifetime, Kevin cared deeply and helped countless members of his neighborhood, community, and family. Kevin was an avid New York Giants fan and was a season ticket holder. He was also a lifelong New York Mets fan and avid baseball memorabilia collector. He was a devoted fan of singer Jessica Lynn (Sterlacci), attending her concerts whenever possible and overjoyed when he was presented with a band member guitar as a gift from her.
He is survived by two sisters, Barbara Darrah of Bloomingdale and Margaret Petrone of Rhinebeck; two brothers, Thomas (Peggy) Callaghan of Tupper Lake and Charles (Kim) Callaghan of Pleasant Valley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Callaghan, and his one and only beloved dog, Garth.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all friends, neighbors and medical staff who cared for Kevin, checked in on him at home, and attended him throughout his illness, especially his nurse/caregiver Maria Spranzman, friend Matthew Crawley, dialysis nurse Brianna Uva, and Father Jude of St. Mary’s Parish. And, all the other dear friends who provided a bright spot in his day. Kevin would always mention the countless individuals who took time from their day to visit, run errands or drop off goodies and meals. He was so very grateful.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Calling hours and a mass of Christian burial will take place in the spring; date and time to be announced. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
