Kelly L. Haig

Kelly Lee Haig passed away very unexpectedly, but peacefully at home on Sunday, Jan. 5.

Kelly was born in Saranac Lake on Jan. 21, 1956. His parents were the late Margaret (Curry) Haig and the late A. Lee Haig.

Kelly went to the Saranac Lake school district and graduated from Saranac Lake high school in 1974. In school, Kelly enjoyed various sports, including basketball and also had a love for music which carried into adulthood. While in high school, Kelly began to develop his faith and love of religion. He was involved in the Presbyterian Church at that time, and helped stage a Christmas play there. He was also in several bands over the years with a special group of talented and good friends. Kelly had a love for children, and they responded to him as well and so he began coaching little league baseball. His influence was positive and he and the kids had great fun. He also dabbled occasionally in the community theater. Kelly was always known to be cheerful and kind and a faithful and loyal friend. He preached at many local churches, and was also pastor with the youth ministry. He had recently been working for Kinney Drugs in Saranac Lake, which he really enjoyed, and where many would stop to visit and joke with him. Kelly also had formed a great group of friends at the local Moose Club, and enjoyed visiting with everyone there and was very grateful for the support he had recently received from his friends there.

Kelly is survived by his two adult daughters, Natalie Haig of Clark Mills, his grandson Logan Haig also of Clark Mills and Sarah Haig of Tennessee. Also surviving are his two sisters Sheila (Brian) Dongelewic of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, and Joanne (Mike) Defoe of Henderson, Nevada and many cousins and other extended family. He was predeceased by his older sister Kathleen (Mike) Davis.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours at this time, but in the Spring a Celebration Of Life is planned and reception to follow. We welcome all that knew and loved Kelly to attend. Anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Kelly is welcome to donate to Tri Lakes Humane Society, or the Saranac Lake Adult Center. Family and friends can also share their condolences and memories at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
