Harold “Butch” J. Mahoney

Harold “Butch” J. Mahoney, 76, of Bloomingdale, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024. Butch was surrounded by his two daughters, Lizz and Tara, at the time of his passing.

Butch was born June 26, 1948, in Poughkeepsie. He was the son of Charles and Marion Mahoney.

Butch graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School in 1967, then went on to serve in the United States Army. He proudly served the United States Army in 1967 until honorably discharged in 1970. Butch served two tours during the Vietnam war. He received several medals during his time serving in the Army: National Defense Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Vietnam Services Medal w/ 1 Silver & 1 Bronze Star; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and Sharpshooter (Rifle M-16). After fulfilling his military service, Butch retired as a manufacturing operator with NXP in Fishkill, New York.

Butch married Nancy (Ruf) Mahoney on July 8, 1972, at the Zion Memorial Chapel in New Hamburg, New York.

Butch especially loved spending time with his family and the company of his dogs. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing and gardening. He enjoyed spending time at the VFW where he was a lifelong member.

Butch is survived by his spouse, Nancy; daughters Elizabeth (Mark) LaMere and Tara Mahoney; grandchildren Nicholas (Samantha) Montero, Alexa Benitez, and Jenna and Reghan LaMere; great-grandsons Jayden, David, Nathaniel and Colton Montero; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request all memorial donations in Harold Mahoney’s memory be made to the VFW post 3357 Saranac Lake.
