Steven H. Gallo, Sr.
Steven H. Gallo, Sr., age 69, passed away peacefully at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 after a long but courageous battle with prostate cancer.
He was born in Schenectady on Nov. 27, 1954, the son of Harriet Miller and Paul Gallo Sr. Steve attended Lake Placid Central schools and completed 11th grade before deciding to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. Steve joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 19 and served his country in the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1973, Steve began to work with Don Peryea a few years later at the Sherwood Forest Motor Inn in Ray Brook. It was as Don’s apprentice that Steve learned how to be such a skilled carpenter. Steve then went on to work with various contractors in the area as well as being a caretaker for Heaven Hill Farm in Lake Placid. As the years went on, Steve decided to branch out on his own and begin his own carpentry business where he worked for many successful years before being forced to retire early due to an injury he sustained on a job.
Steve loved to be outdoors as much as possible. In the spring and summer months, you could find Steve out in the middle of a lake on his boat fishing or out in the woods hunting with his compound bow. In the winter time, you could find Steve in the middle of the lake inside his ice shanty ice fishing. Steve also really enjoyed building things in his shop and restoring and repairing old antique furniture. In addition to his hobbies, Steve loved to spend time with his family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the most important thing to him. He was an incredibly dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather that would have moved heaven and earth to show them all just how much they meant to him.
Steve is predeceased by his mother, Harriet, and his father, Paul; and his two brothers, Nick and Billy. He is survived by his three brothers and two sisters: Fred, Paul, Anthony, Bella and Bernadette. He is also survived by his three children: Mary Civinski (Michael) of Sayreville, New Jersey, Steven Gallo Jr. (Kaylin) of Fort Ann and Justin Gallo (Morgan) of Albany; 12 grandchildren: Jarrett Miller, Gianna Miller, Jaydon Colaci, Natasha Prosser (Scott), Monica Gallo (Joseph), Brianna Gallo (Devin), Tyler Gallo, Heaven Gallo, Halsey Gallo, Harper Gallo, and Noah Gallo; and four great-grandchildren: Isabella Golden, Kaylam Marr, Shyann Golden, and Jade Heath.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid with the American Legion Post 326 Lake Placid Prayer Service held at 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service officiated by Rev. Derek H. Hanson, Pastor of the Adirondack Community Church. Burial will be at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
