Carlton ‘Carl’ Anthony King

Carlton “Carl” Anthony King, age 88, of Vermontville, passed away at the Adirondack Medical Center — Saranac Lake on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 with his loving wife by his side.
Carl was born on Sept. 5, 1935 in Malone, the son of Wallace J. and Lydia (Perry) King. He married the love of his life Phyllis M. Johnson on Sept. 20, 1958 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomingdale.
Carl grew up in Malone, one of 12 children, where he worked on various farms in the Malone area. When he met Phyllis, he moved to Bloomingdale and worked for Tom Norman. In 1961, Tony started working for the Saranac Lake News Company (later Burns News) until his retirement in 1997. Carl loved to cook, work with wood and make furniture. He treasured the time he spent as the treasurer of the Town of Franklin 55 club.
Carl is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis; his brothers, Kenneth (Lila) King of Burke and Gerald (Peggy) King of Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sisters, Louella King, Evelyn Boileau and Patricia Poirier; and his brothers, Leonard, Roy, Robert, Francis (Howard), Wallace (Pete) and Richard.
Funeral Arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY, 12983. At Carl’s request there will be no public calling hours. A mass a Christian burial will take place on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Assumption in Gabriels, with the Reverend Martin Cline officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Union Cemetery in Vermontville in the family lot.
