Janet M. Ploof
Janet M. Ploof, 86, of Saranac Lake and formerly of St. Regis Falls, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Essex Center in Elizabethtown surrounded by family.
Born on Oct. 15, 1936, in St. Regis Falls, she was the daughter of Efard and Lillian (Merrill) Cummings.
Janet married Robert Ploof on Saturday, July 16, 1955, in St. Regis Falls. He predeceased her on Sept. 6, 2022.
Janet was a lifelong resident of St. Regis Falls and worked in many different venues. She was a lifeguard, waitress, an aide in a nursing home and most important to her was being a mom.
Janet and Bob raised a family of six children of whom they were very proud.
Janet is survived by one daughter, Sheryl (Richard) Moulton of Winthrop; five sons, Michael (Patti) of Saranac Lake, David of Gabriels, William (Terri Penn) of Waddington, Robert (Pam) of Texas and Neil (Kristen) of North Carolina; sisters Kathleen Richards of Brushton, Sharon Potter of Fort Plain, Cecilia (Clayton) Trimm of North Lawrence and Donna Mussaw of Tennessee; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her father, mother and one brother, Allan Cummings.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert and Janet Ploof is set to take place at 10 a.m. Friday May 19 at St. Anne’s Church in St. Regis Falls with the Rev. Alfred Fish officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery.
