On Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, Bertha Marshall passed from her earthly life into her eternal reward of Heaven.
Bertha was born one of nine children on June 21, 1928 to Harry and Celia (Goodrich) Twining in Johnson City, New York.
On June 24, 1947, she married the love of her life Roger and settled into her career of homemaker and wife. In 1950, Roger and Bertha took the job as caretakers at Indian Pass Ranch on the Loj Road, where they served for 45 years. Her sons, Charles, John and Rollin, brought her great joy which continued when they started their own families. She was a faithful member of the Lake Placid Pilgrim Holiness Church on Sentinel Road. Her devotion to God and to her church family led her to many ministries over the years. She did laundry at St. Francis Academy, loved the children of Lake Placid with overnights at “the farm,” led Good News Club at the church after school each Wednesday for many years and served in prison ministry at FCI Ray Brook. She has continued in her later years to bless her family with her many gifts made with her hands, including wool braided rugs, cross-stitched stockings and letters. Most of all she blessed them with her prayers.
She is survived by her three sons, Charles, John (Sharon) and Rollin (Naomi) Marshall, nine grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and many others who called her “mom.” She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, her daughter-in-law Joyce and great grandchildren Grace, Dillon, Marshall and Michael.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pilgrim Holiness Church, Sentinel Road, Lake Placid with a funeral service to follow at noon. Rev. Paul Case will officiate. Burial will be at North Elba Cemetery in May. The family asks to please consider donations in memory of Bertha Marshall be made to the Pilgrim Holiness Church. The M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements. Please visit www.mbclarkfuneralhome.com to share a memory, order flowers or leave condolences.
