SARANAC LAKE — Lake Flower Landing will present Nashville duo Oliver the Crow at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 in collaboration with Saranac Lake’s own Beehive Productions, during the duo’s debut album tour.

The duo navigates between the gravitas of chamber composition, the longing of folk music, the near dreamlike quality of atmospheric sound art and above all, pop music’s candy-sweet escape.

Kaitlyn Raitz and Ben Plotnick’s chameleon-like ability to skip between genres stems from their roots as classically trained performers (Kaitlyn has a master’s degree in classical cello from McGill University and Ben has performed as a soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic) but also from their love of bluegrass, gypsy jazz, everything from Hank Williams to Prince. “Within a week of meeting each other, we began mapping musical ideas and plans to record an EP,” Kaitlyn said of her first encounter with fiddler Ben, before they even lived in the same city.

NPR Music has named their duo “an inspired collaboration.”

Beehive Productions are music-film producers who, while based in Saranac Lake, travel around the country and beyond to produce music documentaries and live music videos for roots and acoustic musicians at regional, national and international levels.

While Beehive’s work reaches beyond the boundaries of the North Country, the result is a connection to a unique niche of traveling musicians for whom Saranac Lake becomes a destination.

Beehive has known Oliver the Crow’s Kaitlyn Raitz for several years while working with ensembles like The Bombadils.

The relatively new duo with partner Ben Plotnick of The Fretless is just beginning to make its mark. A recent set of live performance videos was shot by Beehive in collaboration with Oliver the Crow recently in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and is currently in use to promote their self titled debut CD release.

Lake Flower Landing is an event space and studio-gallery of Karen Davidson and Peter Seward, located in Saranac Lake at 421 Lake Flower Ave.

Admission is $10.

Starting at $4.75/week.
