SARANAC LAKE — Village police are investigating a series of vandalism incidents around the village which occurred early Thursday morning.

A side plate-glass window of the restaurant Casa del Sol on Lake Flower Avenue was smashed in, a laminated glass door was cracked and damaged at dispensary Elevate ADK down the road and two vehicles had their tires slashed — one on Sumner Place.

The same individual was captured on camera footage at these locations, wearing a Carhartt-style jacket, a winter hat, light-colored pants and a face mask. The man is described as approximately six feet tall.

SLPD is asking members of the public to review their security cameras for any footage that may aid in the investigation. The vandalism is suspected to have occurred between 10:50 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. Thursday night into Friday morning. Anyone with information regarding these incidents can contact the SLPD at 518-891-4422 or report anonymous tips to saranaclakepolice.org.

Elevate ADK General Manager Eli Emery said he believes the vandalism was targeted. He spoke with the owner of Casa del Sol and the man whose tires were slashed and they all suspected the same person.

The dispensary’s cameras record motion, but somehow, the suspect broke the door window between 10:50 p.m. and 12:50 a.m. without triggering the cameras. When he returned at 4:30 a.m. to hit it again, there was already glass on the ground in the video.

Emery said it seemed the man was just trying to damage the door, not break in. He was glad the vandalism didn’t put a hole in the door because that would require them to close, as it would pose a security issue.

The glass cracked and fragmented, but did not completely break. Still, the pressure from the impact blew glass shards all the way back behind the cash registers, Emery said.

Casa del Sol is currently closed for Spring Break until April 27.

Starting at $4.75/week.
