And then there was one …

WILMINGTON — Whiteface Mountain General Manager Aaron Kellett was all smiles over the weekend.
Between the International Pond Skimming Competition and the Apple Butter Open, which he and members of his family took part in, it was a busy weekend of festivities for the ski center — and it was officially announced Sunday that it would not be the mountain’s last this season.
Whiteface will be closed today through Friday. The mountain anticipates reopening April 19-20 — pending cooperative weather conditions. For several other New York ski mountains, including Gore, Bellayre and HoliMont, April 13 was the final day of the season. This leaves Whiteface as the sole ski area in New York that is slated to add more days to its tally for the season.
The mountain is expected to host several special events on Easter Sunday. These include a non-denominational Easter service at the Little Whiteface summit at 8 a.m. The Cloudsplitter Gondola, which usually opens to skiers and snowboarders at 8:30 a.m., is scheduled to open at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday to shuttle people up. Gondola rides are free for the service — before the ski day gets underway — and are open to anyone who wants to participate.
Later in the day, Whiteface will host an Easter egg hunt for children. There are two separate hunts — one for children ages 6 and under, and the other for children ages 7 through 12. The action gets underway at noon for the 6 and under group, with participants asked to meet up at the mountain’s base area.
At 12:15 p.m., the ages 7 through 12 Easter egg hunt is scheduled to begin in two locations. Those who are able to ski or snowboard are asked to meet at the top of the Wolf trail, and non-skiers/riders are asked to meet up at the bottom of the trail, which ends near the mountain’s base area.
Both age groups can expect eggs filled with a range of goodies and surprises. Each age group will have the opportunity to find a coveted golden egg, which contains a free season pass for the 2025-26 winter season. Each group will also have the chance to find a silver egg, which contains another “incredible surprise,” although mountain officials are not divulging what that is ahead of time.
Mountain officials remind the public that these events are subject to change or cancellation, based on weather and conditions. For the latest operational updates, visit whiteface.com/mountain.
