Tupper Lake school district draft 2025-26 budget expected to be rolled out tonight
Board will also hear several presentations, consider proposing capital reserve fund
TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake Central School District Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 6 p.m. at the L.P. Quinn Elementary School, located at 294 Hosely Ave. The meeting will take place at the building’s Michelle A. LaMere Library.
There will be an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of the meeting.
The board will hear several presentations, including the Franklin-Essex-Clinton BOCES administrative budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, as well as a list of suggested bid alternates for its capital project prepared by Schoolhouse Construction.
Superintendent Jaycee Welsh is also expected to deliver a draft school district budget presentation for 2025-26 fiscal year, according to the agenda. The district’s budget vote is scheduled for May 20. Today’s meeting was moved up from its original April 7 date at the board’s previous March 10 meeting. The change was made for the district to be in compliance with state deadlines for school districts, according to Welsh.
“We have to make the ballot public, not necessarily with exact numbers, 45 days before the vote,” she said on March 10. “If we kept our April 7 meeting, that puts us two days over that timeline so we needed to back up our meeting. We want to make sure we hit all those timelines accurately.”
The board will also vote on a capital reserve fund resolution totaling up to $3 million. If approved by the board, the capital reserve fund will be put to district voters for consideration as a separate item — but on the same ballot — from the district’s 2025-26 budget.
The capital fund would cover “masonry renovation, plumbing upgrades, electrical upgrades, mechanical upgrades, technology upgrades, telephone upgrades, roof replacement on District buildings, door replacement, window replacement, turf replacement, fencing, site work, including but not limited to paving, curbs and sidewalks, renovation/reconstruction of interior and exterior instructional spaces, abatement of hazardous materials and/or the purchase of new real property, furnishings, and/or equipment,” according to the meeting agenda.
The district’s next scheduled meeting is April 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the district office conference room, also located at 294 Hosely Ave. The board of education is slated to meet then to approve what the district will put forward to its voters to consider on the May 20 budget vote.
