Four Lake Placid incumbents reelected

May Chow, Art Devlin, Marc Galvin and Jackie Kelly

LAKE PLACID — Mayor Art Devlin, along with three other village leaders, were reelected following uncontested races in Tuesday’s election. Devlin, Deputy Mayor and Trustee Jackie Kelly and Trustee Marc Galvin will all be serving second terms in their positions. Village Justice May Chow, who was appointed in the spring of 2023 to finish the term of former Justice David Coursen, was also reelected.

In Tuesday’s election, 68 residents voted at the ballot boxes and 10 absentee ballots were received, according to village clerk Anita Estling. Devlin received 66 votes, while Kelly had 64 votes, Galvin earned 65 and Chow garnered 67. All four positions have four-year terms.

Some voters cast write-in votes, and some candidates received votes for different leadership positions. Kelly received 11 write in votes for mayor, while Petra Weber received four. Colin Hayes received five votes for the position of trustee, and Jason McComber received four. Scott Monroe received five votes for justice.

Devlin was proud of the village staff, who he said have well-rounded skills and have managed to keep the majority of the village’s infrastructure up-to-date despite higher prices. In the future, the village will be tackling a project updating the sewer plant and Devlin said topics like the vacation rental policy needs continued attention.

“Despite the fact that we were all running unopposed, I’d like to thank the people that did turn out to vote for us, we really appreciate that,” he said. “Thanks again for the confidence to elect us — myself and the board — to lead you the next four years.”

Kelly is looking forward to continuing work on the new Adirondack Rail Trail parking lot and trail head at Station Street. She said it’s also a continuing priority for them to keep the budget under the tax cap. She also echoed gratitude for the voter turnout.

“I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout given the fact that it was uncontested,” she said. “I’m happy to serve the village for another four years.”

Galvin will continue to be involved with the community connectivity committee — finding ways to connect trails and sidewalks around Lake Placid for recreational use. He’s also helping finalize the comprehensive plan and reworking some elements of the land use code.

“I’m glad people have faith in me to serve another four years,” he said.

Chow echoed these sentiments.

“I’m looking forward to another term and being here to serve the village,” she said.
