Brazilian bobsled team gets taste of home country in Saranac Lake

SARANAC LAKE — Members of the Brazilian bobsled team, in town for the IBSF World Championships in Lake Placid, filled Fiddlehead Bistro on Wednesday for a taste of home.
Local metalworker Dan King and Fiddlehead Chef Craig Bailey were serving up massive plates of feijoada — a black bean stew with meats, farofa and sliced oranges. Bobsledders said this is a popular dish in Brazil. What we would call
King repaired a sled for the team earlier in the season. A prominent metalworker in the Tri-Lakes, he’s who the team sought out after two pins in a sled were broken in a crash. To King, it was a minor repair. To the team, it was The two little pins keep cables running in line to keep brakes working properly.
When he returned the sled to Olympian and pilot Edson Bindilatti, they got talking about food.
King said. He’s familiar with the dish from his time living in Tampa, Florida.

So King decided to invite the whole team over for a family dinner. Bailey picked up a new recipe to create a steaming, savory feijoada — getting pork from Kate Mountain Farm, sausages made by the Kings and locally sourced venison. King said this was an

Four-man bobsled pilot Gustavo Ferreira had been sliding earlier in the day at Mount Van Hoevenberg. Bobsledder Fernando Filho said they’ve had good competition this season — better than in years.
On March 8 and 9, Bindilatti and Edson Ricardo Martins placed 20th out of 30 in two-man bobsled. Two-man team Gustavo dos Santos Ferreira and Rafael Souza Da Silva placed 24th.
The Brazilian bobsled team will get back on the tracks for four-man races tomorrow and Saturday at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
