SARANAC LAKE — The “Music Legends” Saranac Lake Winter Carnival will produce yet another music legend reunion on Friday.

The “Legendary Rock ‘N Roll Hit Show” will bring musicians from Saranac Lake and as far as Florida together at the Rusty Nail for a free benefit show supporting the food distribution program at the Saranac Lake Adult Center.

The “Hit Show” is a collection of musicians from up and down the East Coast who have been meeting up during Carnival for the past few years.

Saranac Laker Jesse Purcell said the supergroup stems out of a band named Home Brew he was in with Steve Gonzales and Mike Minard in Poughkeepsie when they were in their 20s. They played the bar scene there for years. Eventually, the three went their separate ways and moved all over the East Coast. But, for the last two years, they all get back together during Winter Carnival to play a benefit show at the Rusty Nail.

“It feels like riding a bicycle. It is as easy to do as it was when I did it 15 years ago,” Purcell said.

Trixie Capalbo, who is organizing the show said she’s loved their shows in the past two years.

“They’re really, really good. And I’m, like, a music snob,” Capalbo said.

Purcell said they’re excited about the “Music Legends” Carnival theme this year, saying it’s “perfect” for them.

Each year, the band’s show raises money for a local food pantry. This year, it will support the Adult Center.

A donation bucket will be floating around during the concert and Rusty Nail co-owner Bruce Thompson will match the donations brought in.

“The reason why we love to play the Rusty Nail is because it reminds us of the Pick Wick pub we used to play in Poughkeepsie,” Purcell said. “(It’s) a place for hippies, country music fans, bikers, truckers, freaks and anyone can all have a good time.”

He said he loves when the community comes out and packs in the bar.

“There’s a lot of excitement in the air because it’s the night before the parade,” Capalbo said. “People are getting into town, they’re getting geared up.”

The show, titled “A Salute to Music Legends “ will kick off with Minard’s original songs — including one about AuSable Chasm. Then, they’ll play “music legends” songs from American jam bands like the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers before moving into heavier rock from the 80s and 90s.

Purcell plays harmonica. Steve Gonzales on drums and vocals hails from Poughkeepsie. Mike LaFalse on guitar, keys and vocals also hails from Poughkeepsie. Mike Minard on guitar and vocals hails from Florida. Chris Muller on guitar, keys, bass and vocals hails from New Hampshire. This year, they are also adding Shawn McKenna on bass and Therese Muller on keys and vocals.

Purcell thanked Capalbo for organizing the show.

“We could not have done it without her, she sets up the beneficiaries!” he said.

On Friday, the music kicks off at 7 p.m.

Starting at $4.75/week.
