Fun Run in Childwold brings excitement

CHILDWOLD — As the flakes continue to fall and the snowpack thickens, a week of fun awaits snowmobile enthusiasts.

The Childwold SnoPackers — a snowmobiling club that maintains a vast network of trails throughout the northwestern Adirondacks — is excited to announce its third annual Fun Run, which begins this Saturday and lasts until Saturday, Feb. 15.

During that week, riders can visit a number of sponsored stops and spend time getting to know the business’s purposes and goals. At each stop, riders can get their cards stamped. Each stamp earns participants one card toward their poker hand. Participants will then be able to build their best five-card hand to compete for prizes at the end of the week.

Blank cards are available for pickup at each stop on the run. For a full list of stops, visit tinyurl.com/3fptk74c.

Stamp your cards and safely ride to the next sponsor, via motor vehicle or snowmobile. All participants are given a week to take part in this fun run, which provides ample time to patronize our generous sponsors. Their generous donations and time support the snowmobile community. Patronize the Fun Run locations while gaining knowledge of our local atmosphere and the supportive people who make us “The best place to ride.”

On Friday, Feb. 14, the Childwold SnoPackers will kick off their Ride In Meet & Greet at The Thirsty Moose Pub & Grub, located at 9754 state Route 3, Childwold — located on trails 7C intersection #8. The event is meant to give snowmobilers of all skill levels the opportunity to meet club members and converse with highly knowledgeable trail experts and trail groomers.

People can learn about the history of snowmobiling in the region — from the first documented long-distance group trail ride in upstate New York, with pictures of the ride still hanging, to the club’s recent developments and trail improvements. These trails have an amazing and humorous history and offer the best snow conditions and riding in the region.

Food and refreshments will be available. The evening will be hosted by proprietor Jim Gaudet and will feature music by radio host Blind Andy of 101.5 FM The Fox — WRCD, a classic rock station.

The Fun Run will come to a close on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Sevey’s Point, located at 8954 state Route 3 — near the intersection with state Route 56 and off snowmobile trails 7A and 7C. Participants are asked to drop off their stamped cards there by 3 p.m. when the cards and poker hands will be drawn for cash prizes.

The first place cash prize is $300, second is $200 and third is $100. Gifts and other prizes will commence shortly after. People can enjoy the newly built warming hut and outdoor fire at Sevey’s Point hosted by owner Jerry Soja.

Experience great food and camaraderie. Visit vendor tents, view our state-of-the-art equipment and get to know the many volunteers who make these trails the best in New York state. After the Fun Run has wrapped up for yet another year, all are invited back to our clubhouse: The Thirsty Moose Pub & Grub for a social gathering with food and drinks.

This year’s fundraiser supports Camp Serenity, a 501(c)(3) Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventure located in nearby Colton. For more information, visit wwoadventures.com. Please show your support by purchasing raffle tickets or making a donation. Every contribution helps!
