LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department successfully contained a fire at Whiteface Lodge Wednesday night, with mutual aid from Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Paul Smiths-Gabriels Volunteer Fire Department.

LPVFD responded to a call about a structure fire at the lodge at 8:08 p.m. They sent three trucks and 17 members. The other departments contributed about 25 additional members, according to LPVFD fire driver Greg Hayes.

Hayes said the fire was contained within 30 or 45 minutes. The department then spent a little more than four hours checking the walls for extensions, which means checking concealed spaces to see if the fire has spread anywhere else. The department was back in service at 1:08 a.m. Thursday.

A statement provided by the Whiteface Lodge said the fire affected five guest rooms. There were no injuries and the lodge relocated all guests to a nearby hotel. The lodge will be open again today and will “operate as usual, with all resort indoor and outdoor amenities available,” according to the statement.

Hotel management declined to comment on the fire beyond the information provided in the statement.

Starting at $4.75/week.
