SARANAC LAKE — The Bob Meyer’s Circular Jazz Quartet will be in concert at Lake Flower Landing for the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival on Feb. 1 at 8:30 p.m., after the fireworks.

The Circular Jazz Quartet features Steve Frieder on saxophones, Luke Franco on guitar and Bryan Copeland on Bass and Bob Meyer on drums and cymbals. The Bob Meyer trio (or quartet) has performed previously at the Left Band Cafe, the Recovery Lounge, Tannery Pond, Hobofest and Paul Smith’s VIC.

The players live in the Hudson Valley. The group is intergenerational, spanning three generations, yet each player is on equal footing in the ensemble. Copeland is approaching his 80th birthday, and the youngest player, Frieder, is 35.

In keeping with the Music Legends theme, the ensemble’s repertoire is in part devoted to the compositions of jazz legend Bert Wilson’s, who members of the band have worked with. Bob himself is a legend, or at least is connected to jazz legends, present and past. The names of notable jazz personalities he has worked in the past include a dizzying list of luminaries: Chet Baker, Anita O’Day, Red Rodney, Ray Nance, Jaki Byard, Mal Waldron, Gary Peacock, Stanley Cowell, Dewey Redman, John Abercrombie, Jim Pepper and Bert Wilson. Bob also is connected with contemporary players such Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Avishai Cohen, Itzhak Perlman, Andy Statman, Wayne Horvitz, Sheila Jordan, Alex Foster, Ed Schuller, Randy Brecker, Diane Schurr and Kenny Werner.

Saxophonist Steve Frieder has toured with Boy George’s Culture Club in 2023, and has opening for John Legend, Jon Baptiste and McCoy Tyner at the prestigious Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland. He’s a regular member of Brooklyn-based psychedelic rock/acid band Art Thief.

Bassist Bryan Copeland has performed at Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazz a Juan in Antibes, Vienna Jazz Festival, Lion Jazz Festival, NYC Winter Jazz Festival and Jazz at Lincoln Center, in ensembles with established players such as Joe Lovano, Roy Hargrove, Matt Wilson, Ingrid Jensen, Camila Meza, Rudy Royston, Kenny Wollesen, J.J. Johnson, Adam Nussbaum and Ernie Watts.

Guitarist Luke Franco purveys the rich tradition of jazz guitar by gleaning from the masters, both past and present. Formative years spent with John Abercrombie — his main influence and one of the great guitar innovators — led Luke to develop his own style and compositional voice.

He was featured as lead guitarist at the world premiere of Michael Tilson Thomas’s “Four Preludes on Playthings of the Wind” along with the New World Symphony in 2016.

Lake Flower Landing is at 421 Lake Flower Ave in Saranac Lake. Admission is $20 at-the-door. Doors at 7:45 p.m., and the show is at 8:30 p.m. Lake Flower Landing is ADA compliant.
