John Brown Farm offers full moon hike series
LAKE PLACID — John Brown Farm will host a series of four “Moonwalks” starting the evening of Dec. 14. The guided walks will meet at the small parking lot next to the north field at the park. Depending on the ground conditions, trekking poles and microspikes or snowshoes may be advised. Hikes will be from 1 to 2 miles long, depending on conditions and interest of visitors. Registration is suggested but not required, and there is no charge.
The first walk is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m., which is earlier than the remaining walks, due to both early sunset and moonrise that evening. In the case of extreme cold or heavy snow, the walk will be moved to Dec. 15 at the same time.
Remaining walks, scheduled for Jan. 13, Feb. 12 and March 13 will take place at 7 p.m. In January and February, if the original night is extremely cold or stormy, and the weather has improved by the next night, the walk will move to the same time the following evening. If the weather in March is inclement, the walk will simply be cancelled. To ensure the walk will take place as planned, those interested may call or text 518-806-9719 on the scheduled day. The John Brown State Historic Site Facebook page will also post updates.
