Anastasia Osolin will be the featured artist at the Adirondack Artists Guild for the month of December.

“Back in the Box” showcases a series of mixed media works created in the past year that incorporate elements of collage, found objects and encaustic (beeswax), all in 9” x 9″ shadowbox frames.

Over the course of the last 25 years, Anastasia’s three-dimensional artwork has evolved from small boxed assemblages to larger, free-form wall sculptures.

“For this show,” she says, “I wanted to try something a bit different, both in terms of scale and materials. Returning to a small, enclosed format and a uniform size has challenged me to look closely, focus on details, and be open to the serendipity of experimenting with new media and techniques. Working on this series has felt rather like revisiting the playfulness of a kindergarten art class (only with sharper blades, power tools and a hot plate for melting wax).”

The resulting abstract pieces invite an intimate scrutiny of the rich textures and colors created by the encaustic and collage elements, as well as the unique patina imparted by time and wear to each of the featured found objects.
