Library screening ‘Red, White and Blue’ film
SARANAC LAKE — A free screening of the Oscar-nominated short film “Red, White and Blue” will take place at the Saranac Lake Free Library, 109 Main St., at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2.
The screening will follow a short talk, “Changing reproductive health care policies threaten U.S. families,” presented by Alison King, PhD. An opportunity for Q&A will follow the film.
Saturday’s event is hosted by Adirondack Voters for Change, Abortion Access Committee. The public is welcome. The film includes mature content.
“Red, White and Blue” — 23 minutes — tells the story of a strapped, single mom struggling to cross state lines for abortion medical care. The film has “a gut punch lying in wait” (LA Times).
According to Adirondack Voters for Change President Kary Johnson, “This is a rare opportunity to screen the film as it is only available to the public for a very brief period.”
The content of the film and presentation is offered to the public prior to the election. Proposition 1, the New York State Equal Rights Amendment, found on the back of the ballot, is designed to protect the rights of New Yorkers based on ethnicity, national origin, age, disability and sex, including sexual orientation, gender identity and pregnancy. Saturday’s event was planned to help inform each voter’s decision.
