Two arrested after chase ends with tire deflation
SARANAC LAKE — State Police charged a Vermontville man and a woman from Florida with numerous misdemeanors and one felony each on Tuesday after a 37-mile chase from Bloomingdale Avenue in Saranac Lake to the town of Duane, which ended with the use of a tire deflation device.
Police said they attempted to pull over a vehicle operated by Jammie R. Reynolds, 47, and carrying Leigha R. Rice, 38, of Key Largo, Florida for an alleged vehicle and traffic law violation on Bloomingdale Avenue at around 4:11 p.m.
Police said the vehicle did not comply and the pursuit lasted around 34 minutes as police followed the two out of town, down county Route 26 and into the town of Duane.
Eventually, police were authorized to use a “stinger” tire deflation device
to disable the vehicle and the two were taken into custody.
Reynolds was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony, as well as third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, all misdemeanors.
Rice was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony, as well as seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.
Reynolds and Rice were both released on appearance returnable to Duane Town Court.
