PLATTSBURGH — Small Town Cultures, a regional producer of fermented foods, announced Friday that it is partnering with Price Chopper and Tops Friendly Markets to expand the company’s diverse lineup of fermented foods to a wider audience.

Lake Placid has a Price Chopper store, and there are Tops Friendly Markets in several Adirondack hamlets such as AuSable Forks and Elizabethtown.

In addition, Small Town Cultures is set to debut in 200 Safeway and ACME stores in February, furthering its mission to attract new customers to the fermented foods space. This expansion is part of the company’s goal to expand the appeal and accessibility of probiotic-rich fermented foods.

Small Town Cultures is known for crafting fermented foods using regionally sourced ingredients, without the use of vinegar or added sugars. Their product line includes Red Onions, Turmeric Kimchi and Traditional Sauerkraut.

“We’re thrilled to partner with regional stores like Price Chopper and Tops to make our products available in hundreds of new locations,” said Cori Deans, founder of Small Town Cultures. “Fermented foods have tremendous health benefits that I know firsthand, healing myself of Crohn’s disease, and we’re excited to make them more accessible to people who care about their well-being and love unique, vibrant flavors.”

Small Town Cultures began in 2017, when Deans started fermenting in a shared commercial kitchen alongside her sister’s business, the Good Bite Kitchen in Lake Placid.

What started as local deliveries from the back of her Jeep and setting up at farmers markets has since grown into a thriving operation, now housed in a 4,000-square-foot facility in Plattsburgh.

Starting at $4.75/week.
