Neighborhood House opens new 30-day trial program
KEENE VALLEY — Keene Valley Neighborhood House, a non-profit assisted living residence, is offering a new program that will allow residents to stay for 30 days at a deep discount without locking them into a long-term contract.
The facility offers a home-like environment for older adults in need of assistance with daily activities.
The average cost of assisted living care in the state of New York is over $5,000 per month, beyond the reach of most residents in the North Country. The Neighborhood House’s new 30-day trial has been created to get more people talking about senior care.
“We are excited to offer a trial run to people in hopes it will ease their minds about entering into a facility such as ours,” said Richard Rothstein, CEO and administrator of the residence. “Many people don’t understand how assisted living works, what services are provided, and how it differs from senior retirement communities and nursing homes. By focusing on the message that no one is ever locked into a long-term contract, we hope to get people to ask questions and educate themselves on the process,”
The trial allows residents to stay for 30 days at 50% off the negotiated rate and allows them to leave within 30 days without notice. After 30 days, if residents choose to stay on, they can still decide to leave whenever they want but must provide advance written notice.
The Neighborhood House is a non-profit organization with one location and holds no interest in other ventures. The mission of the Neighborhood House is to help as many seniors as possible get the care they need, regardless of income, whenever possible. There are no set rates. Each resident’s rates are customized based on their financial resources. The amount of financial assistance that can be provided depends on many factors, including how much funds can be raised. Unlike nursing homes, Medicaid does not cover the cost of assisted living care, and the organization does not receive any subsidies from local, state, or federal agencies.
The 30-day trial stay program is available through Aug. 15, 2024.
