One dead in Route 3 crash
SARANAC LAKE — A Tupper Lake woman has been pronounced dead after a one-car crash on state Route 3 on Wednesday.
Jean M. Crubaugh, 65, of Tupper Lake, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
An initial investigation by New York State Police found that Crubaugh’s vehicle left the roadway and landed in an area by the side of the road while she was traveling westbound on state Route 3. Investigators have not yet shared further details about how the crash happened.
Crubaugh was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh today.
State Police responded to the crash at 1:09 p.m. Wednesday on state Route 3 in the town of Harrietstown, not far from the Second Pond boat launch.
The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit also responded to the scene. State Police were assisted by the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Saranac Lake rescue squad and Tupper Lake fire and rescue.
The investigation is still ongoing.
